week 14

my phone is again my only option this week, it's kind of interesting to keep up with a photography blog with a phone camera and no internet or computer! regardless, this scene is nicer then what i can find in new york i believe :)

Self Portrait #9

This will hopefully be my only self portrait taken with a digital camera. I definitely didn't want to carry my canon around the city all day. Although it's been quite tiring, I have really enjoyed spending a good portion of spring break here. I was offered an opportunity to create and apply makeup for a show on 13th street, it was everything I expected it to be and even more. I'm looking forward to continuing in the right direction and getting my foot in the door with this. A week off of school was really needed, because having some downtime really gets me motivated to reach out of my comfort zone of my daily work and school schedule week to week. This photo was just taken while I had some free time, hanging out in central park. I meet here with my best friends who live in the city or in Jersey pretty often, and I really enjoy spending time here.

Self Portrait #7

This week is lacking in creativity a bit. Slowly running out of lyrics and photo ideas, hahah. I'll get there eventually. Just stuck with a typical portrait, nothing too interesting. I liked the warm tones against the cool tones and the lighting. Cropped it a bit more interesting. Yeah. As busy and stressful as this week has been, there's been so many exciting things that have happened. Looking forward to moving on with this past week, and really trying to take a few days this and next week to relax and focus on photography as much as I'd like to.

Self Portrait #6

"As the smoke clears, I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you feel better
To watch me while I bleed?
All my windows still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper"

Self Portrait #5

By looking at me on a daily basis, I'm sure "oh this girl likes makeup" isn't the first thing that would come to mind. I don't believe that girls should feel the need to apply tons of makeup every single day to feel good about themselves. But, my ultimate dream is to become a fashion, runway, or broadway makeup artist (and photographer!). I love everything about it. Doing makeup in my opinion absolutely is a form of art and even a way of expression. Little things, like just this bracelet really inspire what I do. Just different colors against eachother, different accessories, fashion, etc. I lined my lips in glitter, because I wanted this to be more of a unique look, not something that you would casually go out with. Unless you like glitterfied lips I guess. :) I was going to change the background of these photos to black & white, but when I up'd the saturation I realized the effect was pretty cool and decided to do that instead just to add a little more interest to these pictures. This week has been really ssooso crazy with work, I'm hoping I will have some more time to actually go out and shoot some nice photos this week.

Self Portrait #4

"Gone are the days of summer
We couldn't change it if we tried
Why would we want to, let's go where we got to
Out paths will cross again in time
It's never the same tomorrow,
And tomorrow is never clear

So come on, come on, you know
Our time, our time is here

We know, but were not certain
How can we be, how can we see what's ahead
The road keeps on turning
And all we can do, is travel each day to the next"

I got a new lens and a tripod. Makes life so much easier. Also the weather has just been really nice. All of this = this picture.

Self Portrait #3

"I don't know what I want, so don't ask me
Cause I'm still trying to figure it out
Don't know what's down this road, I'm just walking
Trying to see through the rain coming down
Even though I'm not the only one
Who feels the way I do

I'm alone, on my own, and that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong, oh but life goes on
I'm just a girl, trying to find a place in this world

Got the radio on, my old blue jeans
And I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve
Feeling lucky today, got the s u n s h i n e
Could you tell me what more do I need
And tomorrow's just a mystery, oh yeah but that's ok"

Self Portrait #2

"Real life is a funny thing you know. In real life saying the right thing, at the right moment is beyond crucial. So crucial in fact, that most of us start to hesitate, for fear of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. But lately what I’ve began to fear more than that, is letting the moment pass with saying anything. I think you deserved to look back on your life without this chorus of resounding voices saying, I could of but it’s too late now. So there’s a time for silent, and there a time for waiting your turn. But if you know how you feel, and you so clearly know what you need to say. You’ll know it. I don’t think you should wait. I think you should speak now."

This definitely took a lot of patience. And glitter.

Self Portrait #1

Hello! My name's Rosie, and I love everything about photography really. Fashion and beauty photography mostly interest me; along with portraits, landscapes, macro, nature, dramatic lighting, pretty much anything. I most definitely want to incorporate photography into my career someday. My camera goes with me everywhere. I love taking photos of really simple things, but capturing it in a way that will show it's true beauty and make a great photo. For this first self portrait, I wanted to keep it simple. I feel like even though it is a simple photo, it still reflects my style. I set the camera on the windowsill, put it on a timer, and let the natural lighting from outside shine through. The room was fairly dark regardless, so I had to set the ISO to 1600 which I would have preferred a lower ISO. I edited the lighting, curves, coloring, and contrast a bit in Photoshop. That's about it, thanks for reading!
